A$$ Club
welcome to anti-$tartup $tartup club
remember when startups used to look like this?
tbh, me neither; i was 2 when that photo was taken, but i like the vibes: scrappy, earnest, and weird
startups are "cool" now, so there are a bunch of ppl in it to look cool, make money, and be a "founder."
yc calls these ppl "scenesters" and tbh it's hard to know who is vs. isn't a scenester nowadays
here at a$$ club, we're trying to make a place for non-scenesters. here's what we believe:
- a "startup" is anything (could be a company, non-profit, cultural movement, whatever) that is meant to test a hypothesis that something could grow really fast.
- how fast is fast? imo, it's not "look i got 50 waitlist signups in a week." it's "look i just changed how the world works in 10 years."
- do it bc u care and are want to see something happen in the world. not for money or status or whatever other BS drives ppl these days.
if you agree, join the a$$ club. we're running a summer retreat :)
qna
what is it?
a week-long (or weekend?) retreat in nature for spending time w/ ppl and sharing what u care about. it's also attached to a 1-2 week long summer camp for high schoolers
why should i attend?
bc it's fun and to meet ppl in a non-networking way
how much does it cost?
pay what you can; proceeds will go to the genesis non-profit. as things become more concrete, we'll list how much it costs per person
who runs it?
genesis, a startup non-profit building new young people systems. we find, support, and fund young ppl on unconventional paths.
why are you doing this?
summer camp attached to it; has actual program curriculum but also they can mingle / join the A$$ club
how can i join?
[TBD]
